Your Words

Your words, they trip me up so bad.
I try to count on my fingers and my toes how many times I try not to think of you.
But I often do.
'cause in my mind I know we're not compatible,
but I find I still miss you all the time and
I am so sorry how I let things go.
I ran around in circles just chasing my tail and catching glimpses of you.
My peripherals, my eyes don't work so well.
My brain don't work well at all.
I can read the bottom of those eye charts from standing at least 30 feet away
and I'm sorry that I don't wear glasses.
I never could see how much you meant to me.

It was a frigid wind that brought me to this place (pink cheeks and frozen fingers, can't remember a longer winter).
We fogged the windows and talked for hours (Heaviness just had set in, we forgot about our surroundings).
In my mind you really made that leap (I thought about you leaving, jumping over the next horizon). But it's all just a matter of past.
I would kill to sleep in that pull-out again (laying in bed for hours, just like we used to).
Wake up to the cars outside (I still remember well, it was the first time that I missed you).
But we can't get stuck on things that have no effect (awkward feelings re-emerging, all this time I'm not deserving). But it's all just a matter of past.
A simple phrase.
A weakened voice.
These tired eyes.
I'm out of breath.
I want so much to be good to you.
But these soft hands defeat me.

I Miss You

I looked a fool.
You told me, you told me.
I fucked it up.
But you laughed and brushed it away.
I slurred my words.
You told me, you told me.
I dropped the ball.
But you laughed and brushed it away.
I miss you.
I miss you.
I'll be waiting for you at the end of the day.
I'll be waiting for you when these colors fade.
